The H.K. Lee Academy of TaeKwonDo, in partnership with the South Lakes Booster Club, is thrilled to announce the 46th Annual National Capitol Open TaeKwonDo Championship, taking place on Saturday, March 22, 2025. This prestigious event isn’t just a showcase of martial arts excellence—it’s also one of the South Lakes Booster Club’s biggest fundraisers of the year. We invite the public to join us for an unforgettable day of competition and community spirit, while calling on our South Lakes volunteers to help make it a resounding success!
A Legacy of Excellence and Community Support
Since its start in 2009, the National Capitol Open has grown into one of the largest and most respected TaeKwonDo tournaments on the East Coast, attracting approximately 2,000 participants, including competitors, coaches, officials, special guests, and spectators. Hosted by the renowned Grandmaster H.K. Lee at South Lakes High School, the 2024 event was a triumph, thanks to the dedication of Grandmaster H.K. Lee, volunteers, organizers, officials, competitors, coaches, parents, supporters, and the unwavering support of South Lakes High School. Now, in 2025, we’re building on that success to create another memorable championship while raising vital funds for the Booster Club.
What to Expect at the Event
Mark your calendars for March 22, 2025, and head to South Lakes High School, located at 11400 South Lakes Drive, Reston, VA 20191. The day will feature thrilling competitions in forms, sparring, and team demonstrations, following World TaeKwonDo and USAT rules (with possible modifications). Whether you’re a competitor, coach, spectator, or supporter, this event offers an exciting opportunity to witness top-tier TaeKwonDo talent.

- Opening Ceremony: 9:00 am
- Competitions (11 & Under): 9:00 am
- Closing (approx.): 7:00 pm
Admission is just $10.00, collected at the door, making it an affordable way to support the South Lakes Booster Club while enjoying a day of martial arts action.
