South Lakes “Block Party” — Join Us August 28, 4:30–6:30 PM

Kick off the school year with South Lakes spirit. SLHS Leadership is hosting our annual Block Party—a high-energy showcase where students can explore clubs, teams, and activities, meet student leaders, play games, and have fun.

This year’s Block Party takes place immediately following the School Open House, giving parents a chance to meet teachers and then stay for the festivities outside.

What to Expect

Picture the student lot transformed into rows of colorful booths—each one a snapshot of life at South Lakes. You’ll find interactive games, quick demos, and plenty of chances to ask questions and sign up. Groups that typically participate include Chorus, Model United Nations, and National Math Honor Society, among many others. Expect friendly faces, informative displays, and yes… usually some candy.

Why Students Should Attend

  • Discover your place. Explore the full range of clubs, honor societies, and co-curricular activities.
  • Meet your people. Talk directly with student leaders and coaches to learn how to get involved.
  • Try something new. Test-drive activities at booth games and mini-presentations.
  • Start strong. Build your schedule with meaningful involvement from day one.

  • Come with a friend—and plan to visit at least five booths you’ve never tried before.

We can’t wait to see Seahawks filling the lot, discovering new interests, and building the communities that make South Lakes special. After the Block Party, be sure to head over to the stadium and cheer on the Seahawks as they take the field!

South Lakes Volleyball Earns 2024 AVCA Team Academic Award

The South Lakes High School Varsity Volleyball Team has once again demonstrated excellence both on and off the court. For the second consecutive year, the Seahawks have been honored with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.

This national recognition is awarded annually to high school and collegiate varsity teams that achieve a minimum 3.3 GPA for the entire academic year. South Lakes not only met this standard but exceeded it, posting an impressive 3.61 GPA.

Adding to this accomplishment, South Lakes was also named to the AVCA Team Honor Roll, recognizing programs in the Top 20% of academic performance nationwide. Even more notable, South Lakes is one of only six high schools in Virginia to earn this distinction in 2024.

The South Lakes High School Athletic Boosters invite you to become part of a vibrant community dedicated to supporting our student-athletes and enhancing their high school experience.

Why Boosters?

The Athletic Boosters play a crucial role in enriching the athletic programs at South Lakes. Our efforts provide essential resources and support that help our student-athletes thrive both on and off the field. By helping the Boosters, you’ll have the chance to:

  • Meet and collaborate with other parents in your child’s new school community.
  • Build relationships with the Athletic Director, coaches, and school administrators.

We warmly invite all parents of rising 9th graders (current 8th graders) to our final Boosters meeting of the school year:

Please enter through Door 4 (stadium side), go straight down the hallway, and the cafeteria will be on your right.

This meeting is an excellent opportunity to learn about how the Boosters support our athletic programs, hear from the Athletic Director, ask questions, and discover ways to become involved. Monday Night Showdown: #3 Oakton Hosts #6 South Lakes in Epic Rematch

Location: Oakton High School Stadium

Lacrosse fans, mark your calendars. This Monday night, two of the top girls’ lacrosse teams in Virginia go head-to-head in a highly anticipated rematch. The #3-ranked Oakton Cougars host the #6-ranked South Lakes Seahawks in a playoff battle that’s sure to bring intensity, skill, and serious postseason energy to the turf.

Both programs are elite. Both have championship ambitions. And both have something to prove.

These Teams Have History

When South Lakes traveled to Oakton last year, they walked away with the district championship trophy, defeating the Cougars on their own field. This season, on April 1, Oakton returned the favor—handing South Lakes their only loss of the season in a decisive 10-4 victory.

Since that loss, South Lakes has been on a mission. The Seahawks have rattled off 11 straight wins, finished the regular season at 15-1, and tied for first place in the Concorde District alongside Oakton and Madison. The Cougars finished the regular season 10-4, with a fierce offense and playoff-hardened experience. While both teams are already guaranteed a spot in the regional tournament, this game will determine seeding, momentum, and bragging rights.

This is not just another game. It’s a rivalry, a rematch, and a battle between two of the best teams in Virginia girls’ lacrosse.

South Lakes: Deep, Balanced, and Relentless

The Seahawks are a team with firepower across the board. Their offense doesn’t rely on one player—it’s a committee of threats, each capable of taking over a game.

  • Izzie Brabant (Senior): 65 goals, 15 assists
  • Addison Munson (Senior): 26 goals, 14 assists
  • Kendall Settar (Sophomore): 24 goals, 29 assists

Beyond that trio, seven players have scored 10+ goals this season, making South Lakes one of the most balanced offensive units in the state. Whether it’s a fast break or a settled set, this team moves the ball with confidence and finishes with authority.

On the defensive end, first-team all-district goalie Ann Roberts is the anchor. Her ability to shut down high-powered offenses has been crucial all year. She’s supported by a tough, experienced defensive core, including Sam Goodiel and Morgan Hayes, who bring senior leadership and physicality to every possession.

South Lakes isn’t just winning games—they’re winning with defense, precision, and depth. And they’re ready to prove the April loss to Oakton was the exception, not the rule.

Oakton: Powerhouse Program, Veteran Leaders

Oakton has built a reputation as a championship-caliber program, and this year is no different. The Cougars come into Monday’s game with a 10-4 record, fueled by a relentless offense and an aggressive defense.

Leading the attack are three dynamic playmakers:

  • Riley Sweeney (Senior): A commanding midfielder who creates from everywhere on the field
  • Maura Ferrell (Senior): Quick, smart, and fearless—she finds the net and opens up space for others
  • Aoi Barnes (Junior): A rising star with speed, skill, and scoring touch

The Cougars have poured in 173 goals this season, averaging more than 11 per game. Their defense is led by Bailey Zimmerman, a senior who brings tenacity, anticipation, and leadership to the back line.

Oakton plays fast, smart, and with purpose. They’ve been here before, and they know how to win when it matters most. A win on Monday would give them not only the mental edge going into regionals—but sweet revenge for last year’s district title game.
